I decided to create a new post on it.<\/p>\n<p>Release Notes 4.5.0:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowza.com\/forums\/content.php?836-Wowza-Streaming-Engine-4-5-0-Release-Notes\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.wowza.com\/forums\/content.php?836-Wowza-Streaming-Engine-4-5-0-Release-Notes<br \/>\n<\/a>Download package: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowza.com\/portal\/account\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.wowza.com\/portal\/account<\/a><br \/>\nYou need a wowza acccount now (Don&#8217;t worry its free)<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Before you start the upgrade make sure you have manually backupped all configuration files (applications) of your wowza server. The update of wowza will create a backup, but it won&#8217;t backup the applications. You could manually backup them by backing up your entire \/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine\/ directory<\/p>\n<p>*Note. first the download was freely available. now you need a wowza account first. From the My Downloads tab you can select the new zipfile<br \/>\nCurrent build: WowzaStreamingEngine-Update-4.5.0.zip<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza_mydownload_page.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PxmFT5M2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-495 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza_mydownload_page-300x137.png\" alt=\"wowza_mydownload_page\" width=\"300\" height=\"137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza_mydownload_page-300x137.png 300w, https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza_mydownload_page-768x350.png 768w, https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza_mydownload_page.png 954w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You dont need a new developer license when upgrading, it won&#8217;t ask you for the license at an upgrade.\u00a0It looks like it should be easier to upgrade Wowza now to a newer version. I am using a developer license in this process to show how to upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>My WowzaStreamingEngine server is running on:\u00a0Ubuntu server 16.04 64 bit (older versions will work too)<\/p>\n<p>From this point i will start the upgrade. This is a guide as is. Always try to upgrade in a test environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Always make an extra backup of your wowza system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step1: download update<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Go to the tmp folder<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">cd \/tmp<\/pre>\n<p>Download the zip package to your server:<\/p>\n<p>Where WOWZADOWNLOAD is the link you can copy from the My Downloads tab<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"Download the update package\">wget WOWZADOWNLOAD<\/pre>\n<p>I assume you have zip installed on your server. If not:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">apt-get install unzip<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step3: copy update file<\/strong><br \/>\nCopy the zip file \u00a0to the update directory (\/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine\/updates\/)<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"copy zip file to update directory\">cp WowzaStreamingEngine-Update-4.5.0.zip \/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine\/updates\/<\/pre>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Step4: update directory<\/strong><br \/>\nGo the update directory:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"go to update directory\">cd \/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine\/updates\/<\/pre>\n<p>and unzip the file to a newly made directory based on the same name as the zip file. The -d says it should be unzipped to a directory<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"unzip update package to directory\">unzip WowzaStreamingEngine-Update-4.5.0.zip -d WowzaStreamingEngine-Update-4.5.0<\/pre>\n<p>You will now see the zip file but also a directory with all the files unzipped<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step5: linux update<\/strong><br \/>\nTime to start the update process. In this case im using the linux version, so we have to go to the linux update directory<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"go to linux update directory\">cd\u00a0\/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine\/updates\/WowzaStreamingEngine-Update-4.3.0.01\/linux<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step6: permissions update.sh<\/strong><br \/>\nBefore we can run the update we have to set some permissions on the update.sh file<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"chmod update.sh\">chmod +x update.sh<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step7: run the update<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Make sure to stop the StreamingEngine and StreamingEngineManager first. If you don&#8217;t you will get a notice about it (see step 8 + 9)<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">service WowzaStreamingEngine stop\r\nservice WowzaStreamingEngineManager stop<\/pre>\n<p>Time to run the update and see if we are getting issues<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"start update.sh\">.\/update.sh<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step8: error:<\/strong><br \/>\nFirst error: Streaming Engine still running:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"error - stop wowza server\">Verifying running as administrative user\r\nVerifying Java 1.6 or greater is available\r\nLocating installation directory\r\nWowza Streaming Engine appears to be running. Please stop it before continuing.<\/pre>\n<p>We have to stop the running server first. The command depends on the distro you are using. use the command you normally use to stop the wowza server<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"stop wowzaStreamingEngine\">service WowzaStreamingEngine stop<\/pre>\n<p>After the server has stopped. we start again from <strong>Step7<\/strong>. Run the update.sh again<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step9: error 2<br \/>\n<\/strong>Second error: Streaming Engine Manager still running<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"stop streaming engine manager\">Verifying running as administrative user\r\nVerifying Java 1.6 or greater is available\r\nLocating installation directory\r\nWowza Streaming Engine Manager appears to be running. Please stop it before continuing.<\/pre>\n<p>So also with the previous one we have to stop the service first<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"stop streaming engine manager\">service WowzaStreamingEngineManager stop<\/pre>\n<p>Ok. let&#8217;s try it again from <strong>Step7<\/strong> to run the update.sh again<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step10: upgrade process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the result im looking for:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"start update success\">Verifying running as administrative user\r\nLocating Wowza Streaming Engine installation directory\r\nRunning Wowza Streaming Engine update installer\r\nPath: \/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine-4.4.1\/updates\/WowzaStreamingEngine-Update-4.5.0\/linux\/..\r\n\r\nThis will update your installation at: \/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine-4.4.1\r\n\r\nCurrently installed version : Wowza Streaming Engine 4.4.1 - Build 17882\r\n\r\nThis will update your installation to : Wowza Streaming Engine 4.5.0 - Build 18676\r\n\r\nAre you sure you want to continue? (y\/n)<\/pre>\n<p>Are you sure you want to continue?: Y<\/p>\n<p>And again some information:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"update information - enter\">Changes in Wowza Streaming Engine 4.5.0 Build 18676\r\n========================================\r\n\r\n * Fixed incorrect logging for OutgoingStreamConfig REST API call\r\n * Added REST API end points to list and purge items from MediaCache\r\n * Added IP white\/black listing for LiveStreamRecord HTTPProvider\r\n * Fixed multicast in\/out interface address assignments within the VHost configuration section of Wowza Streaming Engine Manager\r\n * Updated VP9 RTP depacketizer and packetizer to latest specification version (draft-ietf-payload-vp9-01)\r\n * Fixed OPTIONS request to provide CORS headers when an invalid application\/instance is requested\r\n * Fixed REST API JSON error content type to be consistent with non error response\r\n * Turned off Apple HLS (cupertino) cupertinoAutoAdjustDurationIfOutOfBounds system by default (also improved logging when features is on)\r\n * Fixed playback issue with MPEG-DASH on Chrome on OSX by adding sample flags to MP4 fragment data to make key frames (trun box)\r\n * Fixed Push Publishing Wowza Streaming Cloud Stream Targets so that audio-only streams can be pushed successfully\r\n * Fixed Wowza Streaming Engine Manager Stream Targets screen to eliminate unintended screen refreshes.\r\n * Fixed UDP port allocation\/deallocation issue with RTSP\/RTP streaming\r\n * Fixed Stream Targets bug where all enabled targets show an Active status when any\/only one of them is actually active\r\n * Added support for Google Cloud Storage to MediaCache in Wowza Streaming Engine\r\n * Fixed a logic bug in the updatetool, post uninstall actions, that caused the updatetool to log out an error when there wasn't one and to not log an error when there was. This caused all conversions to start at the beginning of the DVR store\r\n * Fixed a bug in MPEG-DASH vod streaming with CENC that cause a exception and failure on segment requests\r\n * Fixed Push Publishing Akamai HLS ABR rendition ordering to maintain order from map file\r\nPress Enter to continue.\r\netcetera.....<\/pre>\n<p>Press Enter several times<\/p>\n<p>The backup and upgrade process will start<\/p>\n<pre class=\"theme:twilight lang:default decode:true\" title=\"backup update process start - success\">Detected operating system: linux\r\nChecking file versions.\r\nBacking up current files.\r\nSuccessfully created backup: \/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine-4.4.1\/updates\/backup\/4.5.0.zip\r\nUpdating installation.\r\nThe update process completed successfully.\r\nKeep a copy of this update zipfile. It is needed in case you want to restore to the previous version.\r\nOnly this version of the update will restore the prior version replaced by this update.\r\nroot:\/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine\/updates\/WowzaStreamingEngine-Update-4.5.0\/linux#<\/pre>\n<p>and&#8230; it should be done?<\/p>\n<p>Yes it is. In the message it says a backup has been made. Lets check if it did.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">cd \/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine-4.4.1\/updates\/backup\/<\/pre>\n<p>And yes, the 4.5.0.zip file is there. The update is completed. Time to start the services again<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: After the upgrade i noticed it made a symlink from my \/usr\/local\/WowzaStreamingEngine directory to \/WowzaStreamingEngine-4.4.1<br \/>\nDon&#8217;t know why they have done that<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza-update-symlink.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PxmFT5M2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-496 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza-update-symlink-300x84.png\" alt=\"wowza-update-symlink\" width=\"300\" height=\"84\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza-update-symlink-300x84.png 300w, https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza-update-symlink-768x216.png 768w, https:\/\/vanmarion.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/wowza-update-symlink.png 861w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step11: Restart the services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Time to bring the server back online<\/p>\n<p>I thought in a logical way to start the StreamingEngine first and after that the StreamingManager, but i have to do it the other way around. \u00a0So first start the EngineManager and after that the Engine:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">service WowzaStreamingEngineManager start\r\nservice WowzaStreamingEngine start<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Step12: browser manager<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Time to go to your browser and open the manager interface &lt;ipaddress&gt;:8088 and login<br \/>\nin my scenario i made some test applications before i started the update process. All of them\u00a0are still there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recap:<\/strong><br \/>\nI added a post on the wowza forum, why the applications and conf directory isn&#8217;t being backuped.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/9MgUFR\">https:\/\/goo.gl\/9MgUFR<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/9MgUFR\"><br \/>\n<\/a>second question is why suddenly the WowzaStreamingEngine has been symlinked. Because i daily backup my Wowza directory, but it stopped working due to the symlink directory it can&#8217;t follow..
